Glidden Names ‘Artifact,’ a Soothing Blue, Its 2027 Color of the Year

It’s that time of the year when paint companies and color consultancies begin naming their “colors of the year” for 2027—and Pittsburgh Paints’ Glidden brand is leading the pack, choosing “Artifact,” a soothing blue, as its pick for 2027.

Described as a “calm, smoky blue that feels like a reset for your whole space—no renovation chaos  needed,” the color feels like it could fit easily into a kitchen, living room or spa. Glidden says the color is part of its “call to recalibrate,” a response to homeowners’ move towards choosing colors with meaning.  It also allows homeowners to move away from cool grays as their neutral of color of choice, an overwhelming color trend in recent years.

“Artifact invites reflection and calls us to pause, reassess and reconnect with what’s essential and gives meaning to our lives,” Michelle Vincent, Pittsburgh Paints color and design manager, said in a statement. “Artifact creates balance without feeling flat. It is nostalgic, but not regressive, by pulling forward what was good from the past and reshaping it into something newly personal and curated. This color feels rare not because it is loud, but because it is used intentionally.”

Artifact is also the latest in a series of Color of the Year selections by Glidden that focus on comfort, joy and personal expression. In 2026, the company picked Rich Mahogany—a rich, grounded red—for its Color the Year honors; in 2025, the choice was Purple Basil, a reflection of homeowners’ embrace of color in personality.
