The Pearl – kitchen

CHALLENGES

Balance and proportion. The entire room is open and the kitchen had to make a statement within the architecture without overpowering the “fireplace” focal point on the opposite side of the room. Creating enough storage without cluttering up the wall space with wall cabinets. The positives and the negatives of the boxes interact with each other with none of the lines piercing through 96” of overall height. The space though vast (the island was just under 18’) needed to be warm and inviting to the owners and their guests. In open plan design everything has a place and needs to be determined prior to construction. The space planning of an open space is much harder than one with surrounding walls.
