Harbor Acres – kitchen & bar

Challenges

The client, whose furniture, art and artifacts reflected Bauhaus/mid-century modern, moved into a house with Georgian exterior details and Italian/Tuscan cabinetry and built-ins. We identified a product line that would both suit their style needs as well as their budget.

Solutions

The project ultimately evolved into designing for them an open concept gourmet kitchen with a large T-shaped multi-function island that comfortably seated six. The selection process led us to identifying 90 sheen high-gloss white lacquer finish on a modern flat panel door that traversed a ten-foot height. Complimenting the clean line perimeter architecture, we identified an exotic wood species veneer that leant itself to a unique horizontal matching linear grain pattern.
The Island and perimeter areas were tied together by using the same countertop effect achieved by building a 2” mitered surface. The two areas also shared the same contemporary linear hardware finished in clean, modern French Gold.
The kitchen was carefully designed to provide highly functional work zones for this client, a busy active gourmet nook, who uses every surface area, every drawer, roll-out, nook and cranny. For her, functional adjacencies and interior function was paramount. Two double waste pull-outs, and composting center, two 24” dishwashers, two microwaves, a steam oven and a large double oven professional range were essential. The interior function included, specially designed interior drawer dividers, spice rack, interior drawer receptacle and charging station, multiple interior roll-outs and even bread box drawer insert were all must have’s.
The main kitchen area was supported by separate areas for a coffee bar with a Miele coffee machine, undercounter refrigerator/freezer drawers for easy access to both fresh and frozen fruit, beverages and a juicing bar concealed with a tambour door enclosure.
Adjacent to these areas is a high bar butler pantry/wine bar area using the same horizontal exotic grain-match veneer. Appliances include a under-counter wine storage, ice maker, refrigerator drawers and a pull-out base cabinet pantry. Interior lit glass doors compliment the owner’s barware and stemware collections while a LED lighted step display presents a strong visual for their bottle display.
