A few weeks ago, we saw an image on Instagram that made us stop scrolling immediately. It’s British designer Matilda Goad’s refrigerator, which she transformed with paneling and storage space, resulting in a one-of-a-kind, butter-yellow statement piece.

While Goad’s fridge is totally unique, you can get the look in your own space by opting for panel ready appliances. These are appliances that allow for custom panels to be installed on the front, creating a seamless look that matches the surrounding cabinetry, right down to the pulls. (Instead of traditional dishwasher or refrigerator handles, for example, the same hardware you picked for you cabinetry is used.)

We love a kitchen gadget, and there are more of them on the market than ever before beyond just fridges, stoves and dishwashers. Modern kitchens often include built-in appliances like microwaves, beverage refrigerators, coffee machines, warming drawers, freezer drawers, double-wall ovens and more. Panel-ready appliance can help tone down the feel of an “appliance-heavy” kitchen and reduce a sense of metallic boxiness. They can even mimic the look of inset cabinets, wherein the panel includes a mock frame around the cabinet door.
