Alpine Avenue – kitchen

CHALLENGES

The client engaged our design services to expand the kitchen and living room spaces in this mid-century modern ranch style house located in Southgate, Sarasota. The design challenge was to create a modern great room with space that would provide open areas for gathering and entertaining friends while preparing meals, as well as accommodate a large art installation. We started with a confined U-shaped eat-in kitchen that accommodated a small dining table for two. Keeping nearly the same footprint, we removed a small wall to merge the kitchen and living room spaces. We designed a large galley island with waterfalls on both ends and seating space for four people. The large perimeter cabinets provide ample under-counter storage as well as space for a small wine cooler. The color palette is black and white, so as not to compete with the original terrazzo floors.
